Start The Right Business

Nothing is more frustrating than wanting to make your own mark in this world, but not being able to move ahead because you're unclear. Add to that the anxiety that comes from the sense of time slipping by and thought that you should be much further ahead by now and chances are you'll stay at a standstill.

Most aspiring entrepreneurs unable to get off the starting block struggle with one of three core problems:

You lack good ideas

"I know I want to have my own business but what exactly should it be? Do I need to narrow down or expand out? How do I come up with a viable idea?"

You have too many ideas

"How can I choose out of all the things I'm passionate about which is the way to go? I don't want to box myself in or pick the wrong one!"

You're not sure your idea will actually work

"I haven't begun because I'm afraid to put myself out there. I'm so clear on what but what if I fail? How do I make sure I'm heading in the right direction?"

1. Articulate your vision

You must find a way to get clear on what you want. And make it work with the lifestyle you want too. Think about the things you are willing to compromise on, and those that you just aren't. There may be a season of no sleep! Or no holidays. Something's always got to give so the more clear you become of where you draw the lines, the easier it will be to determine the path ahead.

Think about your strengths, skills, values and life goals. Draw it, write it, talk about it until you have narrowed down your options. Contrary to popular belief, constraints and limitations are often really beneficial to business growth and this could be because they FORCE your focus.

2. Make clear choices

Once you have got a clear vision it is time to decide. What are the key steps to getting started. Is it decluttering and getting rid of the old? Old business ideas, old stock, old business cards even. Decluttering is a great way to make space mentally and physically for the next steps of your RIGHT business. Take smart, strategic, consistent action that will bring your idea to life. You've got this.

3. Turn your business dream into a profitable reality

"When you work on something that only has the capacity to make you 5 dollars, it does not matter how much harder you work – the most you will make is 5 dollars."
- Idowu Koyenikan

Your results will be based on many variables, such as your level of effort, business acumen, personal qualities, knowledge, skills, and a host of other factors. How do you know if you can even make a profit from this dream business you have?

"It's never a good idea to pay much attention to the naysayers. The fact is that nearly every idea is a good one, if you can figure out how to make it profitable."
- Amy Porterfield

If I knew for sure about this for myself or anyone else the world would be a different place. But start with research. Find out what people are googling for. Or following on Facebook. Find a problem in a niche that you can solve. Nurture your network and those who have used yours services before. Find out how you can serve them more. There is always opportunity around and it is persistence that will give you your lucky break.
